The Monterey is longer (11'6" vs 10'6"), wider (34" vs 33"), holds more volume (370 vs 300 L), and carries 100 lbs more (400 vs 300 lb capacity). The Newport turns easier and is lighter for transport. The Monterey covers more distance per stroke and handles bigger loads. Choose Monterey for touring and fishing, Newport for general paddling.

Yes. The 400 lb capacity easily handles a paddler plus a full fishing kit (cooler, tackle, rod holders, anchor). The 34" wide deck adds standing stability for casting, and 5 M8 action mounts plus 16 d-rings give you anchor points for fishing accessories. The Monterey is NIXY's most fishing-capable G5.

The Monterey supports up to 400 lbs (181 kg) total, the highest capacity in our G5 lineup alongside the Venice. That's enough for tandem paddling with two adults, heavier riders with gear, multi-day camping loads, or paddling with a child and a dog at once.

Yes, but the Newport or Venice is typically easier to learn on because they're shorter. The Monterey's 11'6" length tracks straighter (less zig-zag for new paddlers) but turns slower. If you're 6'+ or over 200 lbs, the Monterey may actually feel more comfortable than a shorter board because of the extra deck space.
